These Peppers are our own organic open pollinated heirloom peppers. We have
been growing these for the last 30 years. They are mostly thick walled and very
tasty. They can grow anywhere from 3-5 feet (1-1.5m) in height depending on
your location and how good your soil and feed is. Started early they will begin
to flower in early summer and continue until the frost kills them making great
peppers along the way.
Plant out 24 inches (61 cm) apart with rows at least 24" (61 cm) apart
if possible. Plants can get large with a lot of leaves.
The peppers they produce are hand sized or more and heavy. There are many on each plant so it will need some kind of support or the stalks will break. Staking is not sufficient, cages fencing or many strings work but they will slide down a single stake and break.
Grow in a sheltered location away from strong winds as this will blow the plants
over. Harvest often. Remove any peppers that have over ripened and were forgotten
as they will attract fruit flies and other animals. Ripened peppers have a strong
aroma and can attract wildlife for miles to get to them. Rabbits don't usually
eat peppers but almost anything else will. Bears love them but usually only
take the ripe ones.
