Phytosanitary Certificates. What are they?
How does a Farm get a Phytosanitary Certificate?
The farm needs to apply to the government Department Of Agriculture (DOA),
pay fees and then have their farm inspected to ensure the DOA is satisfied
that they meet the requirements for growing and processing seeds for export.
They then issue an 'acceptance certificate' which allows phytosanitary
certificates to be issued. The inspection DOES NOT create phytosanitary
certificates, it only states that the farm is acceptable to have them issued
when needed.
Getting a Phytosanitary Certificate for export.
Every time an order goes out it has to be inspected and a phytosanitary
certificate for that batch/order is created. This is a more time consuming
process than the original inspection and its costly. Once the order has
been inspected a certificate is issued and can be sent with the order.
How much does a Phytosanitary Certificate cost?
Here in the US they cost anywhere between $125 - $200 each, depending
on what is in your order. This is why they are really only economic for
importers or large amounts of seed. If you order is for $4,000 then its
cost effective. If you just want a packet of seeds then obviously its
not.
Does Floral Encounters offer phytosanitary certificates?
No we don't. The process of inspection is costly and really only worth
it for shipping large seed orders. we don't normally have enough seed
available to fill large commercial orders so its not worth the time and
effort. Most of our customers only want small amounts of seed and certainly
wont pay high prices for a certificate to import them.
Can you still ship overseas?
Yes we can at the customers risk. Many countries are now insisting on
phytosanitary certificates so it's getting harder and harder to ship internationally.
We don't have the resources to keep up with what each country requires.
The customer needs to determine if they can legally import the seeds they
wish to purchase. Floral Encounters is not responsible for any order that
is confiscated by customs or returned to us. We do not offer refunds: it's
at the buyer risk. Some countries to offer small lot permits that allow
small amounts of seeds to be imported but you need to check and ensure
that you can legally import any seeds you purchase. While small seed orders
that will fit in a business envelope may be accepted anything that comes
tracked and states it contains seeds most likely will be inspected and
could be rejected.
COUNTRIES THAT REQUIRE PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATES
This is NOT a comprehensive list. It's just what we know about at present.
More countries may be included at any time. It's unlikely if your country
is on here it will be removed.
